In a conversation about how we would describe our sound, someone once said to us "You either sound like The Beatles or U2, so which one is it..." Sure, in one sense every band is individual and unique, like a fingerprint. But, in another sense, it’s impossible for us to escape the artists who have created the context in which we make music. All of us musicians can point to a handful of other bands and artists that have shaped our tastes, preferences, and subsequently, our sound. It’s likely, if we’re honest, that those are the bands we sound like.
So what about Someday Company? We suspect we’re more like U2 than we are The Beatles. We have been compared to The Goo Goo Dolls, Ryan Adams, Guster, Vertical Horizon, The Wallflowers, and even The Foo Fighters. For the most part we agree with those comparisons. Our music is melody driven pop/rock, about life as we experience it. In fact, we feel that’s just what music, and art in general, is: an artist giving you a peek at what life is like for them, and maybe you can relate. Maybe you can’t. Maybe you’re content to take it in as a casual observer. Maybe you still wear a fanny pack to carry important personal items.
Making and playing music, for us, is... expression, creativity, energy and subtlety. In as much as music is our passion, it is also frequently our frustration as we struggle to put to music the song that is written somewhere inside of us but has not yet found its way out. Our collective dream is to make great, honest music...to be a great band. We like our music, and we like playing it, but we also know that we’ve got a lot of growing and maturing still to do.
Now, if you have any interest in us at all, we’d like to extend this friendly invitation to you: Help us by sharing our music with your friends, and join us on the journey. We encourage you to download it, burn it to CDs, pass it around, let it multiply like the Salmon of Capistrano. Why? Because we don’t have a record deal, and our marketing strategy is you. If you think our music is decent, then we’re counting on you to spread it. So, in a nutshell that’s us. We’re out to make great music, and we promise we’ll work hard at it until we get there. Then, once we get there we’ll stop working and retire on the millions...or...thousands...or maybe hundreds that we’ve made, and work in Wal-Mart as store greeters...now that doesn’t sound so bad.
