03/06/2007 : Would You Rather...

So, we've been pondering the deep
questions of life...well, maybe not
deep but questions nevertheless.

Would You Rather...

a. be a genius/master of "one thing"
(i.e. you're the fastest swimmer in
the world) or

b. be mediocre at everything (meaning
you could play every instrument, fix a
computer/car, etc but you were just
average

Something to ponder:)

01/31/2007 : Calling For Snow...

That's right folks...Tennessee weather
forecasters are calling for snow. That
is not really unusually. Not the snow
part, that is unusual. The weather
men (or women as the case may be) calling
for snow is not unusual. Typically we
get 10 or so false alarms before a real
good dusting hits us here in Nashvegas.
So I'm crossing my fingers and hoping
tomorrow morning will bring us a covering
of that fun wintering white stuff.
The best part about snow in TN is that
it typically means schools shut down
and sometimes work too. We will see.

01/20/2007 : Bored Again On Saturday Night?

If you toss a penny 10000 times, it
will not be heads 5000 times, but more
like 4950. The heads picture weighs
more, so it ends up on the bottom.

Just some more useful facts brought to
you by SoCo.

01/17/2007 : You Heard of This Band Yet...

Leeland? If you haven't you need to.

01/13/2007 : Mike Had The Baby

...well his wife Keely did. A cute
baby girl named Lucy. I'm sure we'll
have pictures soon.

01/12/2007 : Wassup!!!

It's Friday night and SoCo is partying
hardy...well, kind of. Jim's probably
pimping out his new basement/party pad/
new SoCo studio. Mike is preparing to have a baby - any second now and I'm
giving the new computer a little test
drive. Hope you're Friday is as cool
as ours. Nighty night.
-Brian

01/01/2007 : How Do They Know?

I just spent a little time with some
friends who have a baby. The baby was
playing on the ground by my feet, and
every time I did something that got
her attention she would look up at
me. A question occurred to me as a
result of this exchange with said
baby: How does the baby know to look
me in the eyes? I mean, wouldn't it make
more sense for her to look at my ankles
which are much more directly in her line
of sight. In baby scale, my eyes are
probably 8 or 10 stories above hers.
It's not just toddlers I'm talking about,
this is true of infants. Notice, the next
time you're around an infant, if you can
get his/her attention, they'll look at
your eyes. The same is also true of animals.
So how do they all know to look at our eyes?
Am I the only one that thinks this is interesting?
-Mike

12/31/2006 : What 2006 Was For SoCo

This year was filled with many things
and althought it didn't all go as planned
2006 was a success for Someday Company.

Bass player Amy Sporleder got a great
opportunity to start playing with local
Nashville artist Natalie Stovall quite a bit so
she's taking a break from Someday Company.
Jim has his second little girl (actually in Dec 05)
and built a new house, moved and just finished
out the basement a.k.a. NEW STUDIO!
Mike is about to have babina numero uno.
I've been busy learning to
be a dad as well...my first girl born
in Mar. 06. We're still 85% done with
the new record but with the Jim's new
studio ready to roll we should be back
and running shortly. All and all, an
amazing year for us in Someday Company.

Happy New Year!
-Brian

12/18/2006 : It's impossible to lick your elbow.

We know that as Christmas approaches that many
of you would be taking vacation from school or
work and that it is quite possible that some of
you might possibly feel a tinge of bordom at
some point. And we're guessing that your bordom
may lead you to surf the internet and just maybe
you'd see what was going on with your favorite
band Someday Company. Well rest assured, we were
prepared and we have got quite the challenge for
you here on SomedayCompany.com. If you dare
(and may we suggest onlyif you're alone)...just
try to lick your elbow. Let's just say we've
tried and failed many times. Ahh what you'll do
when you're bored:) Merry Christmas!

12/05/2006 : Holiday Tips For Keeping Off The LBs

Did you know that...

Every time you lick a stamp, you're
consuming 1/10 of a calorie.

So as we're approaching the holiday filled with
sweets, sweets and more sweets, make
sure you're taking into account all
those Christmas cards you're mailing out too.

Just another useful fact from your
friends at Someday Company.

08/02/2006 :

Well I went to see Guster in concert with my wife and my good friend Bret. Let me clarify, my wife and Bret went with me...the weren't in concert with Guster. If you've never seen Guster live, now is the time to do it. Let's be honest, they're at the top of their game. While I was at the concert, I started to wonder what it would be like to be a celebrity, you know, the kind that avoids going out in public because people freak out about you when you do. Then I started to wonder if some celebrities go out in public wearing those Mission Impossible masks that make you look (very convincingly) like somebody else altogether. I mean, they've got the money to do it. All I'm saying is, next time your sitting in a theatre waiting for the latest Will Farrell movie to start, take a look around...they might be among you.

This thought brought to you courtesy of Mike Taylor and Someday Company, in partnership with Bounty. Bounty "The Quicker, Thicker Picker Upper".

07/20/2006 : Oh La La's

so Mike and I were busting out some pretty sweet oh la la's tonight in the studio on our new song called "Welcome to the New Me". Not sure what Jim's going to think when he hears it but I'm pretty sure our Journey, meets Queen, meets Boston harmonies might be deleted once Jimmy gets his hands on it:) All that to say, we're still plugging along and making some sweet tunes. Getting closer each day. Good night.
-brian

07/06/2006 : Available on iTunes

We're finally up on iTunes (and all the other download services) so if you own an iPod (or other mp3 player) please take a second and download one or more of your favorite Someday Company songs (it's only $.99)

05/12/2006 : The Question Of the Week Returns

Hello friends, long time no ponder. Well, shake of the dust because it's time to ponder once more. Credit for our return-of-the-question-of-the-week goes to our favorite Band Mom, Kathy Peterson. Kathy recently hit us with this one:

If we get evicted from our own minds, who are we?

Sweet Moses, that's a tough one! Well done Kathy. Send me your thoughts/answers at mike@somedaycompany.com

05/02/2006 : It's coming...

We wanted to let you guys know we're super pumped about the new music. Due to really great things (having babies and moving houses) the recording process was delayed a bit but rest assured, we're still at it. In fact, that down town gave us a chance to refine what we'd already recorded. Not going to give you a date but it should be soon.

02/05/2006 : Another Superbowl Come and Gone

I have to admit, I was rooting for the West Coast champions but man oh, man those Steelers were too tough. Well, Superbowl 40 was a decent game. Well played by both teams. Now it's time to finish up the record.
-Brian

01/29/2006 : Back From Breckenridge Colorado

Last Saturday (Jan. 21st) Mike, Jim and I (Brian) sat at the Nashville airport, preparing to fly to Denver, where we’d then rent a 4x4 vehicle and drive 2 hours into the snow filled mountains of Breckenridge, CO. Expectations were high…we were dreaming of fun filled days on the slopes and late nights spent recording our new album. Well, we’re back now, sitting at home in Nashville.

Okay, that’s not the end of the story. I guess the best way to describe the week is..."Epic." My older brother used that word a lot so I have to give him credit, but it so aptly applies to our experiences this past week.

Really dialing in and finding our sound, the sound of Someday Company, being creative, experimenting rather than playing it safe and ultimately creating a new album full of catching melodic pop/rock songs was our priority and intentions for the week. Well to put it like a true San Diegan (our native home town)…we’re STOKED on how the music is turning out. It’s definitely a step up for us and has blown away our expectations.

We are about 70% done with the record…we still probably have 4-6 weeks left since we will only have 1 day per weekend to dedicate to finishing. Not to over hype this, however, we think it’s going to be worth your wait. So all you SoCo fans that are eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the Someday Company story, know that soon and very soon, you’ll be rocking out to some pretty epic tunes.

So that’s the update. If you’re interested in hearing the new music, please shoot us an email

(info@somedaycompany.com) or leave us a comment on our www.myspace.com/somedaycompany page.

Oh, and we’ll have pics up soon from Colorado...stay tuned!

01/12/2006 : Recording Update

12/02/2005 : Mike's Question of the Week Vol. 17

Thanksgiving is over, and Christmas is just around the corner. I love this time of year. In the spirit of the holidays, I'm giving you two for the price of one.

From our good friend, fellow music enthusiast, and guitar virtuoso, Kyle Evans, comes the following question:

If a tree falls in the middle of the forest and then snaps back upright as
a joke, do the squirrels freak out?

It's hard to say Kyle. I've lost sleep over this one.

And question # 2, in honor of everyone who's ever watched the movie "Rad" and absolutely loved it, is:

If the "black box" survives every plane crash, why not make the entire plane out of that stuff?

Send your thoughts/answers/favorite recipes to: mike@somedaycompany.com

12/01/2005 : Recording Has Officially Begun

Wahoo...we've finally started the recording process for our next record. We tracked drums for 10 new songs that we're super stoked about.

Find out more about the recording process on our latest myspace.com blog.

11/17/2005 : Mike's Question of the Week Vol. 16

Well, we've been working hard...writing new music, strategizing for 2006, touring eastern Europe with Asian electro-pop sensation Matsu Takoko...you know, the usual. Ok, maybe we haven't been touring eastern Europe with Matsu Takoko, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't like to.

All that is to say there have been many things vying for my proverbial creative juices, and I have been slacking on the QOTWs as a result. I'm sorry. Thanks to all of you who have emailed me with your answers, thoughts, and more questions.

Without further adue, I give you:

Why did they name that underwear company Fruit Of The Loom? What is a loom, and why does it have fruit…am I just missing some kind of metaphor?

Send your thoughts/answers/favorite Asian electro-pop bands to: mike@somedaycompany.com

10/25/2005 : Mike's Question of the Week Vol. 15

This week's QOTW is brought to you by our close friend and pioneer of the "strictly salt, starch and carbs" diet, Brett Price. Take a gander.

If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

Excellent question Brett.

Brett was recently seen with his close personal friend Clay Aiken while they were out cow tipping late one night. The two were caught in a candid photo taken by under cover paparazzi.

10/14/2005 : Mike's Question of the Week Vol. 14

All right. I know I'm behind with the QOTWs, and I know you've all halted your lives in eager anticipation of the next posting. Well my friends, the wait is finally over. So put on your reading glasses, get your cup of coffee, let the dog out, and prepare to ponder.

If a man is talking in the forest and there is no woman there to hear him, is he still wrong?

Send your thoughts/answers/favorite 80s era power ballads to: mike@somedaycompany.com

09/27/2005 : Mike's Question of the Week Vol. 13

and:

When something bad happens to us we ask "Why me?" Why don’t we ask the same when something good happens?

07/22/2005 : Pics / Mike's Trip to Guatemala

Keely and I (Mike) just spent 8 days in Guatemala. We walked through ancient ruins, hiked volcanoes, listened to live Marimba bands, ate a lot of really great food (not just beans and rice mind you), spent time with a good
friend, made some new Guatemalan friends, and bought a sweet machete (with tassels on the case). It was a fruitful trip.

Check out some of our pictures in the "photos" section.

Yeah, ahh...pretty difficult we know but worth pondering:)

04/13/2005 : We Just Played a Show with the Counting Crows in Atlanta

Okay, that’s not entirely true...we played with "A" Counting Crow. Ben Mize was Counting Crows' drummer for 10 years and just recently decided to take a different direction with his life. Both Mike and myself (Brian) have been heavily influenced by the songwriting of Counting Crows so last night was definitely a treat. Ben's solo music is very chilled-out singer/songwriter stuff...give it a listen at www.benmize.com

Heather Luttrell played after us and pretty much rocked the house. Man, oh, man, can she belt out some tunes. If you mixed Jewel, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle and Ray LaMontagne...you'd get an idea of what we're talking about. Not to mention she's got some serious guitar chops. Check out her music at www.heathergrrrl.com

Our first Atlanta show was definitely positive...we would highly recommend bands playing or music lovers going to 10 High (located in the Highlands of Atlanta, North Side).

02/27/2005 : Sunday Morning Drive

I was pondering today whether or not I really had meaning and purpose in my life. Not sure if we ever get a crystal clear picture but maybe, just maybe if we listen to the God of the universe, we can hear his voice guiding us. We at Someday Company are doing just that...straining to hear a whisper, a voice of direction that we can grasp onto as we journey along. As we begin to develop this dream/passion of ours regarding music, we'd like to bring y'all into the process, sharing a little bit of our hearts and hearing from you in return. We'd like to think that somehow our paths will cross and together we can experience life to it's fullest.

We are going to start communicating in writing about our vision/dream by emailing you or posting different thoughts on our site. Of course this is an on-going and a two-way conversation so we looking forward to hearing from you over the next few months. You can always reach us at info@somedaycompany.com

We'll talk soon,
SoCo

02/22/2005 : Spring Is On It's Way

Not sure what the weather is like in your part of the country. We Nashvillians just had a 70 degree teaser yesterday...ahh, feeling good. We're excited for this spring but not just for the weather but because of what's in store for SoCo. We're continuing to write what we feel are some of our best songs yet and are anxious to share the music with y'all. You'll have plenty of chances to come out and hear us over the next several months (that is if you live in Tennessee, Indiana, or Georgia). Hopefully we’ll see you or hear from you soon.

Last night went way better than any of us expected. The Obscure Cafe is a sweet venue, just 2-3 months old and designed specifically to host live bands. There was actually a great turn out, mainly to see the local headliner, Greenrode Shotgun who put on a stellar show. Thanks for those of you that came out.

11/27/2004 : Thanksgiving Leftovers!

The ironic thing about Thanksgiving, besides the fact that every year we vow never to over-eat ever again, only to totally lose control the following year (a year gives us plenty of time to forget about our lofty ideals), is that after gorging ourselves Thursday/night, then popping back a few Tums (and for some, taking a trip to the nearest facility), we wind up passing out (hopefully on the living room floor and not in the throne room), only to awake Friday morning with an overwhelming urge to eat any/all leftovers in site. Somehow our brain has tricked us into thinking it would be enjoyable to scarf down some cold turkey, mash potatoes and pumpkin pie sending us once again into a state of tryptophan-induced euphoria or what I like to call…on-the-verge-of-puking.
-brian

Email us your favorite “Leftover” story (info@somedaycompany.com) and we’ll post it on our site.

11/25/2004 : Happy Thanksgiving

We at Someday Company would like to wish you a happy Thanksgiving!

11/24/2004 : A New Band From Nashville

Someday Company is a new band out of Nashville who is taking a different approach to the music biz. After investing thousands of dollars in high-end recording gear, spending hours in the studio and recruiting a Grammy winning engineer to help produce and mix their music, they’re giving it away for free.

Why? They believe that after hearing their music you’ll be a SoCo fan for years to come. They also believe that you’ll want to share it with your friends and that those friends in turn will become fans. Where most bands are focused on making the quick buck by selling their mediocre overpriced 5-song CD, Someday Company is focused on making fans now and money later.

“By focusing all our energy and resources into crafting excellent music now we’re making an investment in our future. This music journey is a marathon not sprint and we’re just getting started.” – The SoCo Gang

Download our first 3 songs by following the directions in the “Share The Music” section of our site (upper middle).

3 new songs are being mixed and will be available for free this Christmas, 2004. In the meantime we have an acoustic version of “Ordinary Life,” recorded Live on Nashville’s 102.9 The Buzz. Click on the “Click To Hear New Music” banner (right-hand side) to hear a sneak preview.

11/07/2004 : Cheers From Amy

Hello!

Well, as the (ahem!) oldest member of Someday Company, I figured I might be expected to impart a bit of wisdom... to be honest, sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. But one thing has become clear over the last year or so for me. It is a matter of true peace and deep joy to know your purpose in life and walk it out. Enough of the dead-end bunny trails and being a wuss. Get out there and do the right thing, the thing you were created to do, the thing only YOU can do! The friendship and companionship of Jesus gives the strength and excitement each day to get up out of bed and hit the world smiling, ready to face whatever music is playing that day.

Cheers and peace,
Amy

11/05/2004 : Words From Drummer Matt

Hello fellow drummers,

I'm sure there are a few of you out there. Thought I'd talk shop a bit. The gear I enjoy to use with SoCo is as follows: Generally a dw kit with
12" mounted tom, 15" floor tom, 20" kick drum and whatever mood I'm in for a snare drum. I'm in the process of experimenting with a Pearl MMX kit at the moment in rehearsal. The kit is much larger in size, so I'm not sure yet when I'll feel comfortable with it to break out for live gigs. I'll
keep you posted though. Any thoughts, please let me know (matt@somedaycompany.com)...until then my fellow rockers!

MJ
